The Configuration Utility is a UI-based configuration web page that helps administrators customize Citrix Workspace app for Chrome and HTML5 for their enterprise. It is also compatible with Citrix Receiver for Chrome and HTML5. I use Citrix to be able to log into my work PC from home. Previously, I found a way to force chrome to download the.ica files, instead of automatically opening them in chrome. IMHO, the in-browser version is totally horrible, and the actual Citrix Workspace app is fully functional, and 100 times more usable.
Important Note: Before making any Google Chrome changes stated in this article, it is important to have the latest version of Citrix Receiver installed on your operating system. Citrix Receiver for Windows 3.1 or higher is required for use with Google Chrome.
If you are experiencing issues with Citrix Receiver for Windows, complete the following three step procedure:
Run the tool (refer to Receiver Clean-Up Utility) to clean-up a corrupt or previous installation of Citrix Receiver.
Note: If using Windows, check in Control Panel > Programs and Features or Add/Remove Programs that the Citrix Receiver software is no longer present.
Restart your computer.
Solution 1 – Enable Chrome to Open ICA Files Automatically
Enable Google Chrome to automatically open the launch ICA files. When the launch.ica file downloads in Google Chrome, click the drop-down list for the file in the download bar and select Always Open Files of This Type.
Solution 2 – Disable the Citrix ICA Client Plugin (Only applicable to older versions of chrome)
After completing the preceding procedure, complete the following steps:
On Google Chrome, go to Settings.
Click Show advanced settings…
Under Privacy, click Content settings….
Under Plug-ins, click Disable individual plug-ins…
Click Disable for Citrix ICA Client.
Notes:
If Disable option is not available, confirm that the latest version of Citrix Receiver is installed for your operating system. For the latest version of Citrix Receiver, click here.
If you are unable to see the “Disable individual plug-ins” link, open chrome://plugins from the addressbar.

4. Click “Launch Application” button, the expected output is, “Just a moment, we’re detecting if…” and then automatically redirects to Storefront resource enumeration page with resources listed, or Storefront login page (you might need to re-enter user credential and click “Logon” button).Important Note:
- If “Just a moment, we’re detecting if…” webpage doesn’t auto redirects to enumeration/login page of storefront, please click “Detect again” button to try again.
- If “Just a moment, we’re detecting if…” webpage doesn't redirect to storefront web page, it means the configuration for Citrix WebHelper invoked mode failed. In this situation, user can click “Already installed” to continue, Chrome will work in Citrix WebHelper NOT invoked mode.
5. In Storefront resource enumeration page, click an application icon. If “External Protocol Request” dialog window pops up. It indicates Chrome is working at WebHelper.exe invoked mode.
Otherwise, It will work in non-invoked mode. Where it will download ICA file for the resource.
6. Check 'Remember my choice' to avoid repeated External protocol request popup and Click “Launch Application” button, the application should be launched by Receiver successfully even with CST enabled.
