Rudolf was asked on Fox Sports Matty Johns Show after full-time how he planned to celebrate the victory, responding that he would drink '1000 beers' before heading to Cronulla nightspot Northies to 'try and pull something – anything will do'.

The 25-year-old went on to clarify his response saying 'nah, honestly, it's all about recovery these days, I'll be straight in the ice bath', but the NRL took a dim view of Rudolf's joke, outlining its concerns in a letter sent on Tuesday morning.

NRL CEO Andrew Abdo is understood to have raised the comments with Sharks counterpart Dino Mezzatesta after Rudolf's interview went viral on social media platforms.

'I was very disappointed with Toby's comments, they were inappropriate and should not have been said,' Abdo said on Tuesday.

'We are going to issue Toby with a formal warning and I know the club are going to counsel him so there is not a repeat.
